DIOR HOMME AUTUMN WINTER 2012 - 2013
csmithunlimited asked: I'm applying to FIT for menswear fall 2013. How do you feel about the acceptance rate into the program? What kind of garments did you submit with your portfolio? were you confident in your sketches?
Hi! Based on what I’ve heard, there are usually about 300+ applicants and approximately 40 are accepted each year. I didn’t have any garments, just the portfolio and the essays. I’ve been told the essays are the most important. And if you can, I would make the effort to go to the portfolio interviews in NY. They are more interested in your drive, passion, and your goals. Good luck, and work hard. This program is challenging.
jmohammedadvertising asked: I love your work. On tumblr you usually see a lot of women's wear designers, and the men's wear is just kind've stupid and unwearable. It's really refreshing to see a great and passionate men's wear designer, making cool clothes for real dudes. Keep up the great work, and if you'd like you can check out my work at Jameel. mohammed. tumblr. com!!! (just take out the spaces)

3.1 Phillip Lim Menswear SS12
this is my final shirt for patternmaking/tailoring III, which was also the shirt i designed for the loehmann’s contest. unfortunately i didn’t make it past the semi-finals, but it’s all good. also if you didn’t notice, i decided to remove the chest pocket from the shirt. considering the style lines and the movement, i felt it best to follow the mantra “less is more”
this shirt proved to be more difficult than i had anticipated. especially since I chose to use a heavier weight vinyl for piping in contrast with the light weight shirting. those intersections are no joke. and the stylized placket WITH the piping really got me. I ended up having to redo the front left side and placket to get it just right.
i’ll post better pictures and the pants another time.
